He was a cooper by trade, but followed farming. He married October 5th, 1805, Je- mima, daughter of David Webster, Esq., of Berlin, Conn., and his wife, Anna (Kelsey), born April 5th, 1783. They settled in Hart Quarter, a locality of New Britain, only a few rods from the site of his great-grandfather, the first Deacon Elijah. They became members of the First Church, August 5th, 1821. He had the military rank of major. He kept a hotel some years, and had one in Saratoga, N. Y. He was an effective farmer. He died of dropsy, September 7th, 1851, aged G8. His widow died July 6th, 1872, aged 89 years, 3 months, and 1 day. She was distinguished for her tall, qiieenly form, and lady- like appearance and manners.
