Executive history
Planning papers held by Newtown Historical Society connect physician Roy Lathen Leak and architect Walter P. Crabtree with the new state hospital from 1929. The archive includes plans, correspondence and photographs of buildings in use. It is a starting point for reconstructing how the campus took shape. [FH-012]
Reported first admissions in 1933 followed the 1931 cornerstone. The hospital was later renamed Fairfield Hills and closed in 1995. Exact admission and closing days await direct inspection of the cited state record; the differing dates are retained rather than silently merged. [FH-014]
The 2006 photographs document the campus after closure. The historical society’s earlier albums include dated winter views and undated summer images. Their dates cannot be transferred from one photograph to another. The National Register listed the campus district on September 16, 2024. [FH-013]
